"Steve, are you sure this girl's hair isn't going to turn red as she gets older?" I laughed.

For the rest of the afternoon, the three of us watched the game on my iPad while Greta watched cartoons on a TV that was bigger than her bed. As her eyelids began to drop, Steve, my son in law and her father smiled. She stretched her tiny body out on the sofa and Steve grabbed for the remote.

Her eyes popped open and she took it back. Steve was not pleased.

An hour later, after the game had ended, with the Lions somehow able to win it, we sat down to eat. The turkey was beautiful and I had a lot to be thankful for. I had my kids and their spouses. I had my beautiful and soon to be spoiled Grandchild. And most of all I had my heart filled again with Hope.

After we said Grace and began to pass the food around, we heard a chiming sound. Lisa pulled out her phone and answered it.

The voice was loud enough and angry enough that even though the phone wasn't on speaker we heard it.

"Where are you? Where is everyone? I dozed off and the smoke alarm woke me up. The God Damned turkey is burnt to a crisp and I'm alone on Thanksgiving. First my so called best friend steals my husband. Now my entire family deserts me on Thanksgiving."

Lisa put the phone down on the table and left it there. "Happy Thanksgiving Dad," she said. "Pass that macaroni."

We passed the food around and settled in to eat ignoring Charity's rant on the phone. Under the table Hope grabbed my hand.

"Happy Thanksgiving, baby," she said. And it was. For the first time in a long time, it really was.

The End.

guess I've been reading these to long, too predictable. I suppose there could something commendable about screwing homeless me to encourage them but give me a break, YUK!

Ridiculous pointless drama, the cheating slut wife has a screw loose inside her head, the mc was a douche as well, not explaining anything to his kids even when they wanted to know, obviously they would side with their cheating mom, and after they sided with the cheating slut who lied,he simply cut them off wtf? He should have explained first. If I were his daughter I'd simply act cordial with him at best if he wanted a relationship. He got a lot to make up for not the other way around, for years his kids didn't know the story and they even tried to reach him, he simply cut them off for no reason. He could have simply told them and leave. What a douche.

Sometimes readers seem to forget that these stories, for the most part, are fiction. If there were no liberty taken by authors to push boundaries, the stories would all be the same. I had a wife who could easily been the cheating wife in this story. I empathized with the husband in this story. An easy 5 stars.
