This story is a mixture of wild-assed fiction and actual events. Most of the things set at a music and dance camp happened to me, friends or family. Contradancing is real. Dusty Strings and Whirlyball are also real. Much of the rest is stuff I made up.

SeaReaderless than a minute agoAs a Seattlite who has played Whirlyball and bought an ukulele (gift) at Dusty Strings, lived in Oly during college ages ago, and also got divorced here 35 years ago (but amicably, if painfully), I really enjoyed the very true-ringing local/PNW references. Also really enjoyed the characters and their journeys. Length for me was good; a story without some depth, discovery, conflict and resolution is a "why bother" read, to me, sex or no sex. I liked being able to set it down (for dinner) and wanting to get back to it to see how it tied up. Nice resolution with Sarah.
Please keep writing, as long as the stories keep wanting to flow.
Anonymous5 days agoReminds me of the time after my divorce when I did the 'travels with Charlie' cure. Started in Boston and discovered contra dancing in western north Carolina. Loved it so much that I got a list of places and times of dances around the country. Continued travels and put 40k miles on the van. Surprised that no place felt right and went back to Boston. A year or so later, met this fantastic woman at a contra dance and 25 years later we're still at it and living well in the Boston area.

Anonymous4 months agoYou are an excellent narrative writer - you enjoy telling the story. In the long, cold winter nights in Europe, the best seat by the fire was reserved for the storyteller. Don't worry. The man who wrote what is arguably the best novel of the 20th Century was a narrative writer... Tolkien.
The story reminds me of the movie The Parent Trap.
To smooth it out, listen to someone reading it out loud to you, or record yourself reading it and listen to the playback.
I tend to agree that Sarah should have suffered more for the sake of Karma, but I will assume that occurred 'off camera' and still give it 5 stars.
