Our parents, though not directly above us, were only just to the one side and would inevitably hear any unusual sounds. Finally we put the mattress and on the floor. It is carpet on concrete with a thick foam underlay and actually acted as a sound absorbing medium.
Our own personal vocalization was more difficult, and we were constantly collapsing into suppressed laughter to the stage where it was necessary for us to contain the others merriment. It took quite a time for both of us to gain our objective!!
