"Come here," he said gently and pulled her over to him to kiss her.
She seemed surprised, but quickly melted against him. It was a surprisingly affectionate kiss for both of them.
"Sorry," she said, after they broke off, "I should have been better prepared."
"We will be next time," he said. Which surprised him a little. He was already willing for next time.
She smiled a little, shyly.
He smiled back, feeling a wave of tenderness and affection.
Fuck. He felt rule number three shatter like so many shards of glass.

So far, the only person who isn't a complete shithead in this story is Juliette, and even that probably because she wasn't appearing other than in the end.
